Dog health care: The Basics

To start off, dogs are susceptible to about 60 types of disease, and 20 of them can be transmitted to human bodies, which is why you need to pay a great amount of attention to your dog’s health care. It is very important for a dog owner to spend some time regularly on reading materials and books on dog health care. Internet is also a great place to learn how to keep your beloved dog healthy. However, dog health care is so big a domain that you would need to specify a problem to focus to discover the issues you are interested in.

Dogs usually get sick from parasites, viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungus. Although these diseases and infections are fatal sometimes, they can be easily recovered from if treated early. Ensure your dog’s good health by protecting it with Vaccinations. One other advantage of vaccinating a dog is that When a mother dog is vaccinated, her puppies also get the same immunity when they drink her milk. But it is recommended that you talk to a dog health care specialist before you inject your dog with any type of vaccination.
The main three dog health care problems, which are the most frequent ones too, are fleas, worms and poisons. If  you don’t treat them properly, you may expect some serious problems ahead. However, these are not that hard to deal with.
Fleas and lice are easy to deal with. With the help if many shampoos, collars or special drops, dealing this particular issue has become a piece of cake. Do note that you should not use human shampoo to wash your dog because it may completely degrease the fur and afterwards the dog’s skin would have to secret even more oil to compensate for the deficit.  You can purchase various shampoos, Anti-flea sprays, powders, or any other products from any dog health care store. However, it’s recommended that you ask the vet first.
Puppies need to be de-wormed at the age of two or three weeks, with the same procedure repeated at four or six weeks of age. It is highly recommended that you remove all stools and stuff from the garden, keep the lawn cut short and feed the dog properly cooked meat to keep it away from worms.
Anyone owning a dog should also make sure that their dog stays away from any kind of poisonous fluids or chemicals. This can easily be achieved by putting all your nail polish removers and anti-bacterial solutions in a cabinet rather than leaving them in the reach of a dog. Should it swallows any chemical or poisonous fluid, feed it some milk immediately as a first aid before calling in a vet.
